What is Pharmacy?

The word “Pharmacy” has been derived from”Pharma”. Pharmacy first came into existence during 15th to 17th century. Pharmacy is basically a division in the subject of Health Sciences which is responsible for dealing with the composition and dispersal of various drugs. The main objective behind the field of Pharmacy is to make sure that the pharmaceutical drugs are used effectively and safely. A pharmacist is a person who is specialist health professional who has completed his studies in medicine.

The field of Pharmacy can be basically bifurcated into following three disciplines namely:

• Pharmacy Practice
• Pharmaceutics
• Pharmacognosy and Medical Chemistry

An eligibility criterion is a factor which every student needs to fulfill mandatorily in order to enroll him for the course. You can check the eligibility criteria for the course you are interested to opt for.

• D. Pharma – This course offers a diploma in pharmacy. 10+2 is the minimum qualification that is required for this course. The candidate must have passed Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics subjects. Minimum 17 years of age
• B. Pharma - The candidate must have passed 10+2 with 50% marks with Chemistry & Physics as main subjects along with one more subject of Biology / Computer Science / Biotechnology / Math. Minimum age 17 years and maximum age cannot be beyond 23 years as on 31st December
• M. Pharma – The candidate must have completed B. Pharma with minimum 50% marks. No minimum marks foe SC / ST candidates.
• Pharma D – Course duration is of 6 years which included 5 years of classroom sessions and 1 year for Internship. The candidate should be 10+2 with Chemistry & Physics as main compulsory subjects and any one subject from Biology or Mathematics.
