IIM Colleges

The name IIM itself sounds like for the Meritorious only. This is the most true statement among all. The admission in IIM is not everyone’s piece of cake but it is surely an achievement of lifetime for those who had already grabbed it.

The name IIM which stands for “Indian Institute of Management” carries lot of weight and along with the name comes various types of criteria for selection process. Most of the IIM have different criteria of selection like the colleges give different priority to different parameters such as some give preferences to fresher whereas some give preference to already working experienced guys. So, whatever the parameters if you have already been shortlisted for IIM, you prepare well irrespective of you.

Selection Process of IIM: The selection process of Indian Institute of Management is an extremely meticulous process which requires quite a lot of preparation. The basic steps of getting admission in any IIM of India are:

• CAT
• WAT
• Group Discussions
• Personal Interview

The First Stage: The Common Aptitude Test (CAT)

The first step is to get admitted to an IIM is writing the CAT and GMAT (for foreign nationals). The CAT is highly competitive exam in which every year almost 2 Lakhs candidates appear.

All the candidates those who are appearing for the CAT exams are not at all students, some of them are working person as well. The purpose of CAT exam is to sift the candidates for the final round of interview, where they will be called. Previously candidates were called through phone but now a day they are being communicated through email and mail.

The CAT exam has been composed with two sections: Quantitative Aptitude/ Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning/Verbal Ability.

Excelling in these is generally beneficial from excellent managers. Now among the top IIM Colleges Ahmadabad and Calcutta comes in top tier colleges and you need to score more than 99 percentile with a variation of 0.5 upwards every year.

The Second Stage: The Interview - The interview processes of IIM are taking usually by a group of people who are already associated with the IIM whether they are faculty or ex-faculty or may be in some cases alumni. In some cases there is a Group Discussion before PI (Personal Interview), however at IIM A/B/C there are not but in some other cases there will be GD round before PI. You can end up your interview by connecting really well with them if you make it to that particular institute.

The Final Stage: Conversion - Now, it is the final stage of selection process. Every institute has certain criteria for selection which depends on the CAT Score, your interview schedule and academic history. These all will be taken into consideration while selecting you by the IIM Colleges. Most of the institutes incorporate the work experience but explicitly in the final selection round or also it may come across through a good score in the interview.

So, whatever be it work experience or no work experience, you can always show that why are the good candidate ad why the college will select you. Always be honest about your ambitions, about yourself, your failings, about your stronger part and in your efforts too.
